2018 Ford F150 Raptor Consumer Review

The Ford F150 is synonymous with all-American toughness, and the 2018 F150 Raptor is the most rugged version of the F150 yet. Its striking appearance, powerful engine, and advanced suspension system earned the 2018 F150 Raptor a perfect five-star review from Car and Driver.

When you look at the specs of the 2018 F150 Raptor, it’s easy to see why auto journalists are giving this truck such glowing reviews.

Under the Hood of this Ford F150

The 2018 F150 Raptor is powered by a 450-horsepower twin-turbo 3.5L V6 engine, which gives it more zip than its competitors. The 2018 F150 Raptor SuperCrew can accelerate from 0 to 60 mph in 5.1 seconds – that’s faster than comparable versions of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 (5.7 seconds), Toyota Tundra SR5 (6.4 seconds), Nissan Titan Pro-4X (6.4 seconds), GMC Sierra 1500 All Terrain X (6.6 seconds), and Ram 1500 Rebel (7 seconds).

We should note, though, that those five rival trucks all have better tow ratings and payload ratings than the 2018 F150 Raptor SuperCrew.

Suspension System of the Ford F150 Raptor

It’s remarkable how fast you can fly over rough terrain in this truck. What’s even more remarkable is how little you feel it in the driver’s seat. The 2018 F150 Raptor is equipped with the same Fox Racing Shox that Ford uses in its Baja 1000 race vehicle. It can handle anything.

SuperCab and SuperCrew Cabin of the 2018 F150

The interior of the 2018 F150 Raptor is as comfortable as the exterior is rugged. The SuperCab and SuperCrew cabin options are both spacious, but the SuperCrew is especially so. The SuperCrew front-seat passenger space has 40.8” of headroom and 43.9” of legroom, while the backseat passenger space has 40.4” of headroom and 43.6” of legroom.

That front-seat passenger space is roomier than what you’d find in the Ram 1500 Crew Cab, Toyota Tundra CrewMax, and Nissan Titan Crew Cab. The backseat passenger space is bigger than the backseat spaces of those three trucks plus the backseat spaces of the Chevrolet Silverado 1500 Crew Cab and GMC Sierra 1500 Crew Cab as well. 

The Bottom Line

The 2018 F150 Raptor’s starting MSRP of $50,020 makes it pricier than most trucks (for comparison, the standard 2018 F150 has a starting MSRP of $27,610). But, as the old saying goes, you get what you pay for. It may not be the best work truck but with its exceptional quickness and racing-grade suspension, the 2018 F150 Raptor is well worth the cost if you love recreational off-roading.
