Known for high quality firearms, the Sig Sauer 1911 Ultra Compact
does not disappoint. 1911’s in general
are some of the most aesthetically pleasing handguns combining a luxurious feel
with realistic functionality.

Ergonomically, the Sig Sauer 1911 ultra compact is second to
none. It’s a comfortable carry gun, very
accurate and reliable. This subcompact
version of the 1911 has a heavier than usual recoil spring for slide velocity
purposes. The frame is made of aluminum
alloy, allowing for a lighter 1911 concealed carry gun without compromising on
looks or performance.
Pro’s
- Beavertail Safety: One of my favorite features is the beavertail
safety. This allows for a comfortable
higher grip while simultaneously protecting the shooter from hammer bite and
accidental discharge.
- Weight: It’s
definitely heavier than my other carry gun (S&W M&P Shield), but it isn’t
by any means too heavy. Also, due to its
weight the recoil is minimal.
- Disassembly:
The Sig Sauer 1911 ultra compact field strips and cleans easily. Simply pull the slide back until the takedown
notch is right above the stop lever. After
the slide stop is removed, the barrel, slide, guide rod and spring will easily
come off.
- Finish: The nickel Physical Vapor Deposition finish protects the gun from corrosion while allowing for a polished look and feel.
- Reliability:
So far there have been no ejection issues or malfunctions. I can’t really speak on accuracy since I’m a
novice shooter at best. LOL
Con’s
- Magwell:
I’m not really sure if this is a con as much as it is me not being comfortable
with it yet. I’m accustomed to palming
my mags into the magwell, but the included extended magwell makes this difficult. In order to get proper seating I had to push the
mag upwards with my finger. It should be
noted that this issue is now less noticeable though as I get more familiar with
my gun.
Overall, the Sig Sauer 1911 ultra compact 9mm nickel is a
joy to stare at and shoot. Like all Sig’s
it’s not a cheap gun (MSRP $1,200+), however it’s more than worth it if your dead
set on a high quality 1911 carry gun that’s easy on the eyes and accurate.
